Op deze zomerse avond hopen we op goed weer om een sfeervol jazz concert te organiseren in de open lucht achter het hoofdhuis van Berbice. Het jazzkwartet Bettina and the Birds zal de sterren van de hemel spelen, hoewel het concert duurt van 20-22 uur en de sterren dan nog niet zichtbaar horen te zijn.

Bettina Bánki
Throughout years of diving into jazz and folk music, the Bettina’s identity became the fusion of these two genres in her own unique way. The main influence comes from her homeland, Hungary and the surrounding influences on the land from the east. Melodies of ethnicities carry the history of the past, sometimes with deep emotional heritage that she can relate to in every aspect of her life. Jazz still remains one of the key elements in her artwork represented in rearranged jazz standards or in her own compositions
The music of her suggests the listener to join to an emotional journey through songs that represent life’s daily lows and highs. It invites the listener for a deeper understanding of the world and questioning who we are really in today’s rushing existence. Music can guide us all to a higher resonance of our own and true self. When one dares to share the purest and most true self of oneself in art, miracle happens. Today this is the escape from the world, when pressure becomes present. Be in the moment, resonate with the music and the stories of history and Bettina’s perspective in life.
Bettina is graduating in the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague this year, but her
professional life has already started during her studies. She has played in several venues across the Netherlands, such as at the Embassy Festival in 2023, Rijswijkse Schouwburg, Jazz Cafe Bebop, Twee Spieghels, PJPJ and others. Bettina is also part of a folk music based band in Hungary, called Esszencia. In 2025 she worked at the world exhibition representing
Hungary as a folk singer for two and a half months in the Spring in Osaka, Japan and she also had the chance to go back with Esszencia in October and perform there again.
Pascal van den Dool
Pascal van den Dool is a Dutch pianist that found his distinct style by drawing inspiration from (impressionistic) classical music while never losing the connection to the jazz language and tradition.
With his own quartet and as a sideman he has performed at various stages and festivals.
Also he is frequently active in different musical settings such as pop bands and orchestras and he brings this broad musical depth to every musical performance.
Basso Chan

Basso Chan is a Hong Kong-born bassist who earned his Bachelor of Music from The Education University of Hong Kong, supported by a prestigious Li Ka Shing Foundation scholarship. He advanced his jazz double bass studies at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague under renowned mentors Tony Overwater and Gulli Gudmundsson.
A versatile performer, Chan has showcased his talents worldwide—including in Hong Kong, the Netherlands, the UK, and Switzerland—at prominent events such as the Hong Kong Jazz Marathon, Hong Kong Jazz Festival, Festival Classique, Jazz in de Gracht, and Langnau Jazz Festival. In 2025, his jazz trio, the Juan Rodríguez Trio, was honored as the opening act at Switzerland’s prestigious Langnau Jazz Nights.
Currently based in the Netherlands as a freelance bassist, Chan specializes in jazz and soul, regularly performing at concerts, festivals, and various musical productions.
Hafsteinn Davíðsson
Hafsteinn Davíðsson is an Icelandic drummer based in The Hague. Grown up in Akureyri, he started out playing on anything he could find before finally getting his first drum kit. That early start in wind bands, pop and rock gave him a foundation in groove and versatility long before he turned his focus to jazz.
After studying with Matthias Hemstock in Reykjavik, Hafsteinn moved to the Netherlands to study at the Royal Conservatoire. There, he has been studying under Felix Schlarmann, Stefan Kruger, Eric Ineke, and Willie Jones III.
His style is a mix of the precision needed for modern jazz and the heavy, locked-in pocket of a groove drummer. Now finishing his degree, Hafsteinn works regularly with an international group of musicians in the Dutch scene, playing across jazz and contemporary music.
